Are you looking for a great career in the automotive industry that is rewarding, pays well, and is always changing? This is it! Mohawk’s 2 year program is one of the few that fully prepares you to enter the automotive trade and exempts you from all 3 levels of AST schooling. We offer an in-depth experiential based training program, focused on developing diagnostic, repair, maintenance and computer skills for automotive and light truck systems.

Program Highlights

  • You will gain the skills needed to obtain entry-level employment in the automotive industry. 
  • Curriculum is modelled after the Automotive Service Technician (310S) apprenticeship program. 
  • This is a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program where you will learn, and then apply, automotive skills in a shop environment.
  • Graduates of the Motive Power Technician program are exempt from Levels 1, 2, and 3 of the in-school training portion of the Automotive Service Technician (310S) Apprenticeship Program provided a minimum grade of 60% is achieved in all automotive reportable subjects.

What you'll learn

  • Hands-on experiential learning to analyze and solve motive power system problems in a fully equipped, shop environment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and electronic components and systems using a variety of troubleshooting techniques while utilizing the latest in tools, equipment and technology.
  • Safe work practices and skills in project management, shop management, quality control and assurance. 
  • Enhance communication, customer service and computer skills.

Learning Outcomes

Interested in upgrading your Diploma to a Degree? With your Mohawk College Motive Power Technician Diploma you can enter into the Bachelor of Business Administration (Trades Management) (Honours) degree-completion program where the knowledge and skills gained through the Motive Power Technician program will provide the basis for advanced standing into the degree.

Motive Power is a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program. Students are required to have a Windows laptop. Mac, Tablets including iPads and Chromebooks are not fully compatible with our programming.
