Alan Bourke has taught a range of courses in the social sciences and humanities at Mohawk College since 2011. He has a Diploma in Fine Art from the Crawford College of Art and Design (now part of the Cork Institute of Technology), a BA (Sociology) and MA (Sociology) from the National University of Ireland (University College Cork), and a PhD in sociology from York University in Toronto. He has previously taught sociology courses at York University, Ryerson University, and George Brown College. Alan also conducts research in areas of postsecondary access and community engagement and has been lead researcher on a number of grants funded through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and the National Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). His most recent research has been published in the Canadian Journal of Higher Education (2019), the Canadian Journal of Education (2022), and the Canadian Journal for the Study of Adult Education (forthcoming).
