Egan Henderson (they/he) is a game developer and researcher, working on both teaching about games and culture along with creating games of their own! Their research focus has been on trans* and nonbinary experiences and how they can be explored and discovered through virtual reality. Coming from a background in game development offers Egan an inside perspective on how to study games and their systems.

Egan graduated from Brock University’s GAME program with a BSc (Honours) in Game Programming and an Advanced Diploma in Game Development from Niagara College. They then went on to complete their MA in Cultural Studies at Trent University. Egan continues to be interested in what games can mean to their players and how games can be developed to elicit particular sensations.

As a grant funded artist, Egan developed a virtual reality art gallery that showcased real life art created by various artists based in the Niagara Region. They have also presented on their research and other topics of interest at several conferences around Canada, gaining a multidisciplinary understanding of what game studies means. Through all this, Egan looks to continue talking about why games are so interesting to them and what the study of games can mean for future game design and development.
