42 years as a Broadcaster (Radio & TV). Jim is recognized by his peers as a pioneer plus one of the best and most influential Sports Broadcasters in Canada. He hired and mentored more than 75 careers in the Industry.
Sports Director of Global Television Network (Ontario) and Host of “Sportsline”; Canada’s first half hour sports highlights show (the gold standard in sports television). A generation of fans tuned in daily at 11:30 p.m. to watch/listen to this “one of a kind” show. Jim interviewed the biggest names in sports (hockey, football, baseball, soccer, golf, auto racing, basketball, etc) as well as providing insights and commentary at a time when this format did not exist at any other station in the country (note: this show preceded the Internet, ESPN,TSN, Sportsnet, etc.) and at a time when people could watch a very limited number of TV stations (less than 10 in Hamilton including CHCH). This highly rated show existed and thrived for an unprecedented period of time (23 years) in one of the largest markets in North America. It was the fast paced and, at times, impromptu delivery that gave “Sportsline” its signature that was unparalleled in local sports broadcasting (ahead of its time). With a great supporting cast, Jim was the face of the show and longest serving contributor.
Jim was a host on Global TV for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Jr. A. Hockey, The Molson Indy (4 years) and a primetime Super Bowl Special (4 years). For many years, Jim hosted a show prior to the live coverage of The Masters Golf Tournament.
Jim’s impressive career included stints in Simcoe (CHNR), Hamilton (Sports Director at CHAM), ATV/CJCH in Halifax (Sports Director), The Fan in Toronto (on air Host) ,The NHL Network and “NHL Home Ice” on XM Satellite Radio where he co-hosted a daily show with NHL Hall of Famer Phil Esposito. To add to Jim’s impressive career, Jim was also inducted into the Burlington Sports Hall of Fame, Builders category, May 29th 2018.
