Chairperson: Strategic Management & Training Consultants Limited

Beverley Dinham Spencer is the founder of an allied health career college in Jamaica.

Beverley graduated from Communication Arts in 1972 and went on to become founder and chairperson of Strategic Management & Training Consultants Limited in 1989, and founder, principal, and director of allied health care training institute SMTC Career Institute in 2017. Both are based in Kingston, Jamaica.

Her clients include corporate, philanthropic, health and educational organizations in Jamaica and internationally.

SMTC provides a wide range of professional services, including strategic planning, organizational development, project planning, implementation, and evaluation as well as training in leadership, entrepreneurial skills and communication to nonprofits, NGOs, government agencies and community-based organizations.

In her capacity as a trainer, Beverley has conducted numerous training workshops including team building skills, change management, goal setting, and customer engagement. The training provided at the SMTC Career Institute allows Jamaicans to become certified nursing assistants or personal support workers to fill vacancies in Canada or in their home country.

In 2021, under her leadership SMTC-CI become the first international member of the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC) of Canada. This has allowed students to access several Canadian certification courses while in Jamaica.

Beverley has served on several boards in Jamaica and the Bahamas. She is the former president of the Institute of Management Consultants, co-founder, and director of the Jamaica Foundation for Cardiac Disease, now known as the Jamaica Foundation for Community Development (Health) and founding member of the Florida Space Coast Chapter of the National Congress for Black Women.

She was educated in Jamaica, Canada and the United States and trained in entrepreneurial skills at the Golda Meir Centre in Israel and the Kauffman Foundation in the U.S. She attributes her success to the effective foundation in communication skills she received at Mohawk College at the start of her academic journey.

Following her diploma at Mohawk, she earned a degree in mass communication from Wayne State University, a master's in industrial management from Clemson University and a Master of Theology from the United Theological College of the West Indies. She also completed training as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in 2016.

Her professional affiliations include the Chartered Management Institute, the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), Certified Management Consultant, and the Institute of Management Consultants of Jamaica, an organization she led as president from 1998 to 2000.

Beverley’s volunteer experience includes serving as a justice of the peace, a founding member of the Phadrian Community Citizens Association, a friend and sponsor of the National Children’s Home, member of the College of Bahamas Advisory Research Group, founder and president of the Jamaica Foundation for Cardiac Disease, a board member of the HEART/National Vocational Training Agency, member of the Taskforce on the Safeguarding and Protection of Children in Sport as well as the E-Covid Sub-Committee on Independent Schools established by the Government of Jamaica.

Beverley has advocated for more government oversight of career colleges in Jamaica.
