Primary duties
Job Profile
Reporting to the Manager, Development and Transportation the transportation engineering technologist shall perform duties set forth herein and generally assist the Manager of Development and Transportation Engineering in other activities to which they may be assigned. Efforts are principally concentrated on executing the municipal crossing guard program, maintaining of all traffic, regulatory, warning and information signs, street name signs, construction signs, etc. Coordination of traffic monitoring program including installation, maintenance, data collection, and analysis of traffic and parking-related surveys as well as the coordination and inspection of pavement marking activities.
Education and Experience
- Three (3) year diploma/degree in Transportation Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering Technologist with concentration in Transportation Engineering, or related field.
- Two (2) to three (3) years of related work experience.
- An acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience will be considered.
- Valid G license with an abstract acceptable to City standards.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of Ontario Traffic manuals, the Highway Traffic Act and other relevant legislation, acts and regulations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, including the public, for the purposes of responding to general inquiries, community education and engagement, and coordinating traffic-related projects.
- Ability to conduct investigations.
- Excellent written communication skills, and experience report writing, and creating/revising by-laws and standard operating procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans and specs as it relates to traffic engineering.
- Knowledge and experience using Traffic Technology and AutoCAD software, and SYNCHRO.
- Intermediate skills in Word processing and spreadsheet applications.
