Women in Trades Program Powered by the Canerector Foundation

The Women in Trades program powered by the Canerector Foundation is designed to provide a line of sight to potential careers in trades and technology. The program's primary focus will include hands-on skills development opportunities in the construction, industrial, and motive power sectors to better understand the apprenticeship system training and skills development model. This innovative program will also include practical projects to explore career opportunities in aviation, manufacturing, and material handling. Participants will gain insight and confidence as they ‘see it to be it’ via site visits with industry partners and as active participants in Jill of All Trades. All practical components of the program will instill a safety-first mindset and emphasize the importance of quality and continuous improvement involving all aspects of trades and technology. Finally, core employability workshops will be offered to better prepare participants with the necessary skills to deal with the realities of a career in trades and technology. *Certain days and or field trips will extend the hours per week on a as needed basis. Limited spots available.*

This program is suitable for you if you are: 

  • A Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Female and female identified adults who are interested in learning more about skilled trades (18+year) 
  • Willing and able to commit to a FREE full-time program (approx. 30 hours per week) full-time Monday - Friday 9:30 am – 2:30 pm 

Interested participants must attend the following mandatory online information session:

  • Monday, September 30 at 7 pm

Pathways

A training passport model will be used to track and verify progress throughout each aspect of the program.  All program level outcomes will include the opportunity to develop and demonstrate problem solving, teamwork, personal and interpersonal skills within a safety-first and continuous improvement mindset. 

Women in Trades is a non-postsecondary program. Participants who complete this program can earn the 120 hours of non-postsecondary courses required for the College Fundamentals Certificate.

Eligibility

Those who meet the following criteria are eligible to take this program:

  • High school completion or equivalent is encouraged. Exceptions will be considered on a case by case basis.
  • Participants would need to demonstrate a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 5 or higher to participate 
  • Participants must be able to commit to the program scheduled hours and be able to attend the in-person training. 

The program will provide:

  • Participants selected for the program will be provided the required personal protective equipment and must be used in program
  • Local public transit is provided, Bus passes are provided to participants, parking costs are not covered
