Professor, Electrical & Computer Engineering, McMaster University
Distinguished Fellow – Adjunct Professor
Dr. Michael D. Noseworthy, PhD, received a PhD from University of Guelph in 1996, focused on applications of MRI/NMR and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) methods to assess free radical-induced brain damage. He was a postdoctoral fellow in Imaging Physics at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and subsequently a staff scientist at The Hospital for Sick Children. He then moved to St. Joseph’s Healthcare and McMaster University, where he now is a full professor in Electrical & Computer Engineering. Also, at McMaster University he was the Co-Director of the McMaster School of Biomedical Engineering from 2009 to 2020. He has Special Professional Staff status at St. Joseph’s Healthcare and Hamilton Health Sciences in both Radiology and Nuclear Medicine and is the Associate Chair (Research) for the McMaster Department of Medical Imaging. In this role, Dr. Noseworthy was a huge supporter behind the creation of The Centre for Integrated and Advanced Medical Imaging (CIAMI) at the Institute for Applied Health Sciences campus, a partnership between Mohawk and McMaster.
Dr. Noseworthy published hundreds of journal conference papers and abstracts. He has delivered numerous lectures globally. His research interests include the assessment of tissue microstructure and metabolism using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and multinuclear in vivo nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopic techniques, and the application of complex systems mathematics and machine learning to medical image analysis. Dr. Noseworthy is an Active Engineer registered with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).
