Social Inc is hosting a Friday Film Recommendation multi feature.

All Mohawk College students can access these films for free.

This week:

  1. "Canada's 'Black Battalion' fought racism to serve in the First World War"

"Sandie Rinaldo tells the story of the largest Black military unit in Canadian history, whose members had to fight to serve for Canada in the First World War as they faced rampant racism at home."

2. "Shout Out to Private Buckam Singh"

"Meet Private Buckam Singh, of one of the first Sikh Canadian soldiers. During WWI he enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces. In 1916 he served with the 20th Canadian Infantry Battalion in the battlefields of Flanders. His resting place in Kitchener, Ont., is now the only known WWI Sikh Canadian Soldier's military grave in Canada."

3. "NEW Double Victory: Chinese Canadians in the Second World War"

"Chinese Canadian veterans describe their experiences in the Second World War, fighting the Axis in Europe and the Pacific, and advancing civil rights at home."

4. "War veteran and journalist, Frank Moritsugu shares his story"

"As a teenager, Frank Moritsugu was sent to an internment camp in British Columbia. He later enlisted in the Canadian military and has been an active journalist for the past 80 years. He recently sat down with Global News’s Shallima Maharaj to share his story."
