Update: December 19, 2024
On December 18, 2024, Ontario’s Ministry of Labour issued a no-board report to the CAAT-A bargaining team. This means that by January 4, 2025, the union representing professors, instructors, counsellors and librarians at Ontario’s 24 public colleges will be in a legal position to take strike action, such as a full work stoppage, if they choose.
Mediation is scheduled for January 6 and 7, 2025. While a strike is a possibility it does not mean it will happen. There is still the possibility for mediation to continue or for other forms of negotiation such as binding arbitration to occur. No one wants a strike to happen, and we remain hopeful that an agreement will be reached to avoid any type of job action.
What does this mean for Mohawk College?
There is no impact to services and scheduled classes at this time. Mohawk College will be closed for the holidays beginning end of day Friday, December 20, 2024, reopening on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
How will I know if there is a strike?
The union must give colleges five days notice prior to beginning any strike action. This has not happened. Mohawk College will notify you if we receive notice of any action that could impact your studies. You will receive this notification by email and the information will be posted to the college’s website and social media channels.
