Alumni Outstanding Student Leader Award

This award is presented to a full-time, outstanding student leader in their graduating year who is highly engaged and fosters a connection to Alumni Relations, as well as demonstrated each of Mohawk College’s Institutional Learning Outcomes (communicator, collaborator, critical thinker, lifelong learner and responsible citizen).

Kendra Day


Kendra is an exceptional student and leader at Mohawk College, currently enrolled in her second year of the General Arts and Sciences Diploma Program. Throughout her time at the college, Kendra has consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership skills, particularly in her roles as a MoCrew student leader during orientation, an Academic Integrity Outreach Assistant, and a classroom leader. Kendra’s enthusiasm for academic integrity and student advocacy, coupled with her ability to engage and inspire her peers, makes her a role model for other students. Through events organized at the college, Kendra educates and empowers her fellow students, promoting a culture of honesty, respect, and mutual accountability. Her academic and extracurricular contributions reflect her exceptional character and unwavering commitment to excellence, making her a well-deserving recipient of the Alumni Outstanding Student Leader Award.

2024 - Zam Zam Bi

Zam Zam, is a strong communicator who takes pride in working collaboratively with others and brings an infectious enthusiasm to her work and to her staff team. She treats challenges and new experiences as opportunities to learn and grow, as demonstrated in her roles as a facilitator, campus tour guide and event speaker with the Alumni team. Outside of your work with the Alumni Office, Zam Zam actively seeks out opportunities to contribute to her Mohawk College community, providing feedback for the Mohawk Mountaineer logo rebrand initiative and being a subject in multiple Mohawk College promotional campaigns.

2023 - Monica Fisher

Monica is an amazing student and collaborator within the Mohawk College community. Using her remarkable communication, organization, and interpersonal skills, Monica applies her learning and skills to create engaging approaches to her work and with the students she supports. Monica has proven to be a valuable leader and team member, acquiring campus employment with three student service areas. Her connection to the college community will carry on after she graduates. Maria is a student leader in their graduating year who is highly engaged at the College and works to make meaningful connections between past and current Mohawk students. This year’s award recipient is in her graduating year of the Business Administration Accounting program and is dedicated to making meaningful relationships with Mohawk faculty, student, and alumni. She is a hard worker and a role model among her peers who has spent a number of hours working over 25 events to connect current and past Mohawk student.

2017 - Natalie Fisher

Natalie is a student leader in their graduating year who is highly engaged and demonstrates each of Mohawk’s institutional learning outcomes. This year’s recipient has been on the Mohawk women’s basketball team for four years. She’s also a dedicated volunteer, helping out at a nursing home, with basketball camps and as a coach for four basketball teams. She excels academically as well, displaying the utmost professionalism towards her peers and professors. She was one of the first to enrol in the pilot Mentorship Program through the Alumni Office, and served as a student leader for Mental Health in Motion. She is also a MoCrew leader, and has taken part in student orientation, Open House and other events.

Alumni of Distinction Entrance Scholarships

In 2011, the Alumni Association established $500 one-time entrance scholarships in the name of all the Alumni of Distinction Award recipients, totalling more than 120 awards. Going forward the Alumni Association will continue to create one-time awards in the name of the current year's Alumni of Distinction recipients.
