Bob Shields is an educator, musician, researcher/author whose career spans 30+ years. Bob has performed and recorded alongside numerous outstanding musicians, and has toured Canada, Europe and Japan.
Bob has been with Mohawk College since 1997, where he is currently an instructor in the Applied Music program. He also teaches music at McMaster University and is an occasional faculty member at York University in their music program.
Additionally, Bob is a published researcher focused on creative wellbeing and guest speaker in this field. Bob holds a Diploma in Applied Music from Mohawk College, a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Jazz Performance from the University of Toronto, and a Master of Music in Composition and PhD in Musicology, both from York University.
Bob's objective as an educator is to invest in student's ability to manage their creativity as an integral part of their personal and social development. By understanding creativity through a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural lens and applying that knowledge meaningfully, Bob believes students can treat creativity both as a tool for life and work and as an approach to personal wellbeing and social contribution.
