MEDIC’s experienced senior staff can help you flesh out your ideas for a digital health application, helping you to understand the opportunities and the challenges, including both technical and those related to digital health legislation. We can develop architectural strategies for both new applications and existing products, and design a roadmap to help you achieve your objectives and prepare for funding applications and presentations to potential investors. 

MEDIC supports new technology development at every stage of the development process, from the design of the concept to the development of an implementable product. Each project team features a blend of full-time IT professionals and students on co-op terms, allowing us to provide you with an extremely affordable professional service for the development of digital health applications. We favour an Agile approach, working closely with you week-by-week, keeping you in touch every step of the way as the solution evolves along with your needs.

MEDIC, as part of IDEAWORKS, the college's applied research division, have extensive experience in applying for assistance from funding agencies and can work with you to understand your options and prepare applications. MEDIC also has a degree of discretion over certain funds, such as funding from the Southern Ontario Pharmaceutical and Health Innovation Ecosystem (SOPHIE), allowing us to quickly respond to your financial needs. 

MEDIC can assist with integrations to other health applications, including major HIS’s and EMR’s. MEDIC is also experienced in the design of integration gateways to allow applications to interface to multiple other systems with minimal extra development. The team is well versed in HL7 and FHIR protocols and maintains research and testing sandboxes for common industry servers. MEDIC can also assist with integrations to public health databases such as Ontario’s OLIS, OHIP, DHDR and DHIR, and test results from private laboratory databases that publish endpoints.

Medical devices and other IOT devices that can be deployed in a healthcare context are growing significantly in importance. MEDIC is experienced with real-time, secure integration with these devices, and also has access to deep electronic engineering expertise in other parts of IDEAWORKS for activities such as Raspberry Pi development and device cybersecurity management.

MEDIC has extensive experience with leveraging its physical labs and digital environments to support digital health integration research and experimentation, such as the development of the Ontario Innovation Lab. We also host useability research labs, and work with accessibility experts from the Accessibility Research Lab to support the development of inclusive software.  Please note that tours of our research labs are currently not available.
