- Mohawk's Manufacturing Engineering Technician – Automation program has the highest overall student satisfaction of any comparable program in Ontario.
What you'll learn
- Develop skills in mechanical maintenance, machining, and fluid power.
- Develop skills in the theory and practice of machine fabrication and repair operations.
- Principles of measurement, metallurgy, automated systems, mathematics, blueprint interpretation, safety and troubleshooting
- Skills in troubleshooting, maintaining, and preventative maintenance on automated systems.
- PLC programming, basic electrical circuit theory, and ladder logic development and applications.
- Develop skills in AutoCAD, rigging and hoisting, power transmission, and welding.
- This is an integrated technician-apprenticeship program where upon graduation, students are exempt from the in-school training portion of the Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) apprenticeship. Students who participate in the co-op program may also gain apprenticeship hours.

Fast Track - allows students to complete a two-year Diploma program (non co-op) in 16 months. Students will start in January and be in school for four continuous semesters: Winter, Spring/Summer, Fall and Winter. Students will not be off during the summer.

- OSSD or equivalent (Mohawk Academic Upgrading, GED) including:
- Grade 11 English, C or U or equivalent
- Grade 11 Mathematics, C, M or U
Options are available for mature applicants.
Language Requirements for Applicants with English as a Second Language
- See below for accepted equivalents for Grade 12 English:
- Successful completion of the GAS-English for Academic Purposes (478 or 278) program
- TOEFL minimum score of 550 (80 Internet based)
- or IELTS Academic minimum score of 6.0 overall with no band less than 5.5

How you'll gain skills
- Test and apply course concepts via labs, using state-of-the-art tools and equipment.
- Apply cumulative program knowledge through a capstone final project.
- Gain valuable experience during co-op work terms.

The optional co-op program provides students with the opportunity to gain valuable paid work experience. Students will gain up to 16 months of related experience and graduate with an impressive resume. Please be advised that the co-op stream is not available to students who begin the program in January (fast-track)
This co-op program has been accredited by CEWIL Canada. This represents the highest standard of achievement for co-op programs in Canada.
Students interested in the co-op program (473) do not apply directly. Once enrolled in program 413, students who start in September can apply to the co-op stream (473) during Semester 1 and they will be admitted at the end of Semester 1 if they meet the co-op requirements. Co-op is not available to students who start their first semester in January.

This program offers four co-op work term opportunities but requires two completed co-op work terms for the co-op designation.

Additional Information
Mohawk College students enrolled in the two year Mechanical Engineering Technician program at the Stoney Creek Campus will be earning more than a technician diploma! Graduates of this program will have taken the in-school portion of the basic, intermediate and advanced apprenticeship programming in the related trade - (433A) Industrial Mechanic - Millwright. This allows graduates to enter an apprenticeship - for which many large employers are demanding a technician diploma for entry - with the three in-school levels completed.
