Overview
Program Highlights
- Follow guidelines set by the Ministry of the Solicitor General for the Province of Ontario
- Upon completion of a common first year, you may choose to transfer into second year of one of the following programs:
- Acquire use of force knowledge, skills and abilities including tactical communication
- Gain valuable experience during co-op work terms. Applicants are advised that there are specific requirements that must be completed prior to participating in a co-op placement.
- Develop health, wellness, fitness and stress reduction skills relevant to emergency service careers
- Focus on physical fitness, training and wellness planning in order to prepare the applicant for the fitness requirements for various careers in law enforcement.

Program Length
2 academic years (each year consists of two semesters of four months each)
Fast Track - Allows students to complete a 2-year diploma in 16 months (non co-op). Students begin the program in January and continue throughout the summer (four continuous semesters)
Co-op Option - optional after semester 1
*Co-op is not an option for students in the fast track program

- OSSD or equivalent (Mohawk Academic Upgrading, GED) including:
- Grade 12 English, C or U or equivalent
Options are available for mature applicants.
Language Requirements for Applicants with English as a Second Language
- See below for accepted equivalents for Grade 12 English:
- Successful completion of the GAS-English for Academic Purposes (478 or 278) program
- TOEFL minimum score of 550 (80 Internet based)
- or IELTS Academic minimum score of 6.0 overall with no band less than 5.5

- Mohawk College has a state of the art training facility on campus, used to provide practical, hands-on, scenario and simulation-based training
- Students will collect, preserve, and present admissible evidence in Mohawk's Police scenario based training and Mock Trial Court Room simulations.
- Students will gain practical hands-on lab experience with equipment used in the field.
- Apply cumulative program knowledge through a capstone research project.
- Explore academic content through field trips and site visits.
- Gain valuable experience during co-op work terms.
This co-op program has been accredited by CEWIL Canada. This represents the highest standard of achievement for co-op programs in Canada.

Please note that many of the co-op positions for this program require that students have a valid driver’s license ('G' class preferred) and access to a vehicle.

Applicants should note that:
- Some employment opportunities require that certain physical standards, driving abstracts and health standards, including vision, must be met
- A Police Criminal Record Check (PCRC) (pardons are possible, seek legal counsel) and additional selection criteria may be used to assess applicants in this program
- Applicants should be advised that employers require a criminal records check (PCRC)
- Ideal for Pre-Justice graduates
- Applicants receive training in the first year towards a goal at being able to successfully complete the PREP (Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police). Students must be able to pass this requirement to graduate from program at the end of second year.
- Applicants are advised that there are specific requirements that must be completed prior to participating in a co-op placement and that it is their responsibility to ensure the requirements are met
- Must be able to take part in fitness courses throughout the four semesters of the program
- Students are required to successfully complete an aptitude test designed for policing careers and a written assessment to graduate
