Primary duties

  • Complete assessments for hazardous materials, designated substances, and workplace exposures
  • Conduct interviews with clients regarding building history and site-specific client concerns
  • Perform inspections and evaluate building systems and materials
  • Use various types of equipment to record measurements and collect various samples
  • Identify and sample suspect asbestos, lead, and PCB-containing materials
  • Prepare detailed reports documenting findings and providing recommendations to address hazardous materials concerns
  • Inspect abatement and restoration contractors undertaking asbestos and other hazardous materials abatement work to document that the work has been properly completed
  • Collect and analyze Phase Contract Microscope (PCM) asbestos air samples
  • Business development for existing clients
  • Maintain and enhance quality control within the group
Skills and Experience Required
  • College diploma in Occupational Health and Safety related, Construction or Architectural Technology, or Bachelor of Science or Engineering or equivalent/related post-secondary experience
  • Entry level to five years of experience
  • Previous Hazardous Materials experience is considered an asset
  • C.E.T. or related designations will be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of environmental and health and safety legislation/guidelines
  • Familiarity with building systems (structure, envelope, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.)
  • Experience reading and interpreting architectural drawings
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with an ability to follow detailed instructions
  • Excellent technical report writing skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products
  • Availability to work outside our core business hours and rotational weekends, when required
  • Vehicle, valid driver’s license, and insurance, as travel around the designated region, are required
  • Employees may be required by our clients to undergo security clearances and/or drug and alcohol testing to gain access to certain job sites
