Primary duties
Environment and Climate Change Canada is looking for students in their final semester, or who
have recently graduated, and are interested gaining experience enforcing federal environmental
(pollution) laws. The Environmental Enforcement Directorate (EED) needs motivated candidates
to work with Enforcement Officers in planning and conducting inspections and investigations
under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA 1999) and the Fisheries Act.

offers of employment. EED officers are located in over 20 offices across Canada.
Key Activities:
- Assisting Enforcement Officers with inspection activities (e.g. legal sampling, industrial site
visits, spill response, compliance verification, etc.) under the CEPA 1999 and the Fisheries Act. - Assisting Enforcement Officers with investigation activities (e.g. statements, search warrants,
court briefs, etc.) under CEPA 1999, and the Fisheries Act. - Assisting the regional Intelligence program and officers in gathering and analyzing information
to identify suspected violations and assist in inspection targeting. - Various projects relating to environmental enforcement.
- Testifying in court, if necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements: - You are in your final semester or have recently graduated from post-secondary school (includes
college, technical college or university) related to the duties of the position (e.g. chemistry,
biology, environmental studies). - You have a desire to work in the environmental (pollution) law enforcement field.
- You are willing to travel and work in remote locations on short notice.
You possess the following Competencies: - display integrity and sound judgment.

You have Knowledge of the following: - The roles and responsibilities of Environment & Climate Change Canada / Environmental Enforcement;
- An understanding of environmental issues relating to pollution;
- Enforcement (investigative and inspection) procedures;
- CEPA 1999, and the pollution prevention provisions of Fisheries Act, specifically
section 36(3).
Conditions of Employment: - A valid and unrestricted Ontario Driver’s License Class G2 required (Ontario Driver’s
License Class G preferred) with a driving record that demonstrates responsible and
safe driving behaviour.
** Note: Applicants with 6 or more demerit points are ineligible for consideration.
Drivers abstract may be requested. Successful applicants will be required to provide a
copy of their drivers license - Attend and complete mandatory safety training on-line and in-class;
- Be willing to work outdoors in all range of climate conditions and be able to carry out
verbal and written instructions; - Possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to deal with the public in an effective
and courteous manner - Valid Standard First Aid, CPR Level C & AED Certificate;
- Willing to undergo a security clearance and medical assessment (prior to employment
commencing).
