Introducing Clipchamp- the Easy Video Editor for Non-Editors

Facilitator(s): Andrew Connery

Having a trusted application to edit and improve the videos that you record is an important tool in your edtech toolbox. The editor in the Kaltura suite can be described as “serviceable”- intended and limited for simple functions only. Eventually, many of you who create original videos- using Kaltura Capture, your phone, a camcorder, etc.- start needing a more powerful editor to better compile, shape, improve and polish your recordings.

Introducing Clipchamp- the new easy-to-use video editor from Microsoft, designed for those who don't want to be editors, but who want some of the same capabilities of advanced editors like Adobe's Premiere and Apple's Final Cut.

This session will introduce you to Clipchamp, illustrate some common principles of non-linear editing, and demonstrate a few simple editing functions. During the session, a multi-track video will be created by compiling several new and existing clips and other assets, and adding various enhancements.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explain the main differences between an online and offline media editing system
  • Understand how to acquire Clipchamp
  • Demonstrate the basic actions when working in the Clipchamp editor
  • Understand how to apply basic edits and filters, effects and transitions to video clips in a Clipchamp project
