For over half of its 26-year history, KF Aerospace’s partnership with Mohawk College has helped keep its corporate, commercial and military customers flying high. Mohawk Maintenance and Aviation Technician students and alumni — who benefit from experiential learning opportunities alongside KF’s certified tradespeople — are integral in KF’s provision of innovative aviation solutions. Today, over 25 Mohawk alumni actively contribute to KF’s continuing success.

KF’s $30-million expansion of its Hamilton facility recently strengthened our holistic relationship. Home to the Mohawk College Centre for Aviation Technology, the immersive space allows us to double our enrollment capacity, complementing KF Hamilton’s anticipated growth from 150 employees to 425 in the next four years.

The relationship between L3Harris and Mohawk College extends beyond a labour-supply association. As Hamilton’s community college, Mohawk’s mission is to build and qualify a skilled workforce that local companies rely on to be future ready.

The company has collaborated with Mohawk College Enterprise for employee training, and it supports the involvement of company leaders on program advisory committees to help shape the delivery of programs at Mohawk. L3Harris has also made generous contributions to Mohawk student success through equipment purchase, bursaries and scholarships.

The history of L3Harris is deeply rooted in the Hamilton community. The journey began at the Westinghouse factory in Hamilton, Ontario in 1957, where WESCAM camera systems were developed for defence surveillance, funded by the Department of National Defence. Mohawk College, established in 1967, has had a similar road of growth and success, becoming one of the top colleges in Canada and attracting thousands of talented students from around the world.

L3Harris, known worldwide for its WESCAM MXTM-Series electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) products and in-service support, has Mohawk College alumni working in nearly every area of the company. Currently, there are over 150 Mohawk College-trained employees working in various departments at L3Harris.

Since its establishment as an independent broker in 1982, Lawrie Insurance Group Inc. has grown to become one of Canada’s leading, privately-owned, multi-disciplined insurance brokerage, specializing in commercial and personal insurance, employee benefits and group retirement solutions.

The company has over 100 dedicated professionals on staff and about half of their employees are Mohawk College alumni. Mohawk graduates are developing rewarding careers within all departments of the firm including service and sales, underwriting, marketing, brokering and more.

This college-company relationship goes back more than 20 years. Established in 1953, Schlegel Villages, co-owns, manages and operates 19 long-term care and retirement communities across southern Ontario, including locations near college campuses in Hamilton, Burlington and Mississauga.
