1. Opportunity Type: Video Recording
Expected Time Commitment: 2 hours

Topic: Patient privacy; hallway medicine

Details: We are seeking individuals with experience or interest in patient privacy and the practice of "hallway medicine" to participate in a brief video recording that will be shared with students as an educational resource. The purpose of the video is to demonstrate the implications of discussing patient health information in public or semi-public spaces, such as hallways. Participants should have firsthand experience or knowledge of healthcare settings where patient confidentiality might be compromised.


2. Opportunity Type: Video recording and/or in-class Q&A
Expected Time Commitment: 2+ hours
Experience Required: CT, MRI, X-ray, Ultrasound (or Sonography), nuclear medicine

Details: We are seeking patients or caregivers with experience in the area of CT, MRI, X-ray, Ultrasound (Sonography), or Nuclear Medicine to join us in creating meaningful, patient-centered educational content. There are two exciting opportunities to contribute:

(a) Video Recording
Share your insights in a pre-recorded interview, where we’ll discuss your experience working with health-care professional through various imaging procedures. We’ll provide a set of curated questions that can be shared across multiple healthcare programs, with a focus on making your experience relatable and informative. Your story will be woven into educational content that helps students reflect on patient care.

(b) Flipped Classroom: In-Person or Virtual Patient Q&A
Join a class (either in person or virtually) to share your experiences firsthand with healthcare students. Here you’ll engage in meaningful open dialogue with students where they can ask questions, helping them bridge the gap between theory and real-world practice. 


3. Opportunity Type: In-Person Lunch & Learn (McMaster Campus) 
Expected Time Commitment: 2 hours
Experience required: Any

Topic: Intercultural Communication in Healthcare; Translating for Non-English Speaking Patients

Details:
We are seeking individuals with experience or interest in intercultural communication within healthcare settings to participate in an in-person Lunch & Learn session. Specifically, we are looking for individuals or a panel of speakers who come from diverse cultural backgrounds and who either do not speak English as a first language or have had to translate for patients who do not speak English. The goal of this session is to explore the challenges of navigating cultural differences and language barriers in healthcare settings. Participants should be able to share insights from their experiences of interpreting or communicating across cultures, and how these experiences influence patient care and understanding.


4.Opportunity Type: Program Advisory Committee member
Expected Time Commitment: 2 hours, twice a year 
Experience required: Committee exposure 

Topic: Program Advisory Committees for the following programs: 

  • Cardiovascular Technology/Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography
  • Medical Radiation Sciences (Radiation Therapy)
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging
  • Occupational Therapist Assistant/Physiotherapist Assistant
  • Radiography
  • Ultrasonography 

Details: We are seeking six individuals with interest in being a member of a Program Advisory Committee for one of the programs listed above. Program Advisory Committees are mandated by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU) to ensure programs are seeking input from external healthcare/community partners, students, graduates and alumni. Committee membership includes representatives from healthcare professionals, School of Health leadership, faculty, students and graduates, and now a Patient Partner. It is a 3-year term, renewable once. Meetings are held virtually. 

These committees are part of the quality assurance process for Mohawk College programs to ensure that programs are responsive to the needs to our local community and prepare highly skilled graduates ready for the workforce. For more information, please visit the Program Advisory Committee website.
