Harry Pollard was a student in the Deaf Empowerment Program (DEP) from 2003 to 2006. A gentle giant with a great sense of pride, Harry was an avid game player, frequently playing chess, Scrabble, cribbage and card games with staff and other students. Harry was undefeated at chess while at DEP, and rarely lost playing other games.
Growing up without a foundation in the English language or in ASL, Harry also had a passion for learning new words and matching them up with ASL signs. He would spend hours and hours researching words using ASL dictionaries or with a partner, and then repeating to himself until he mastered the word.
