Mohawk College has joined forces with SpacesShared, an online home sharing platform that pairs students looking for safe affordable accommodation with older adults who have extra space in their homes.
The SpacesShared platform is a one-stop-shop that allows students to search available rooms, view host profiles, chat or have virtual meetings with hosts, sign a home sharing agreement and make rental payments.
SpacesShared matches students with compatible hosts that have been verified and received background checks so they can feel safe, secure and focus on succeeding at school.
Home sharing is an appealing housing alternative for students because it provides an affordable housing option, and the opportunity to live with a local host who can offer valuable insights into the community and potentially into a student’s career path. Additionally, students may have the option to perform chores or other tasks to earn rent reductions.
SpacesShared helps to minimize social isolation, and increase a sense of social belonging and financial stability for both students and hosts.
