C2C: Math and Stats Challenge

Classroom to Campus: Math & Stats Challenge

The Mathematics and Statistics Department at Mohawk College is thrilled to showcase Classroom to Campus, a series of real-world application problems designed to bridge the gap between high school and college-level math. These problems highlight how fundamental mathematical and statistical concepts, taught in our college courses, are not only relevant but also accessible to high school students. By engaging with these challenges, students can see the practical impact of these subjects in everyday situations, industries, and future careers.

Our goal is to inspire curiosity, build problem-solving skills, and demonstrate the value of mathematics and statistics beyond the classroom.

Challenge Rules and Details

We invite students to solve these engaging problems during class and submit their solutions to sigma [at] mohawkcollege.ca (sigma[at]mohawkcollege[dot]ca) by June 1st, 2025.

Submissions will be assessed for accuracy, and each topic within each grade level will be entered into a random draw. Selected participants will be invited to an exclusive VIP guided tour of Mohawk College during the first or second week of June (Dates TBD). This unique experience will include opportunities to spend a day as a college student, connect with faculty and current students, and explore specialized labs based on individual interests.

Classroom to Campus not only demonstrates the real-world applications of mathematics and statistics but also offers a glimpse into the dynamic learning environment and opportunities available at Mohawk College.

Note to the teacher: Although efforts have been made to follow the Ontario Curriculum for Mathematics courses in relevant grades, these questions are designed to challenge students beyond standard coursework. The goal is to encourage deeper thinking, problem-solving, and application of mathematical and statistical concepts in new and engaging ways.
