Where can I find the Centre for Healthcare Simulation and Research (CHSR)?
The CHSR is located on the second floor of the Institute for Applied Health Sciences (IAHS) building, situated on the McMaster University campus. For more details on address, directions, etc., visit our 'Connect with us' page.
What are the CHSR's hours?
The CHSR is typically open on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., any after-hours bookings are only available after being pre-approved and confirmed. Weekend sessions may potentially be booked for special events (refer to the 'CHSR Discovery Meeting' form).
Can I bring food or drink into the CHSR?
No; food is not allowed in the CHSR facility space. Drinks are allowed to be left near the primary entrance (within the 'hydration station' area) as long as they are in closed, non-spillable containers. Drinks should not be taken (beyond this point) into any of the inner spaces. Please note that bags and jackets/coats are also not allowed in any of the inner spaces of the CHSR. If you are unable to store these belongings in one of the IAHS lockers, you will be instructed to leave these belongings near the primary entrance. Any items left here are done so at your own risk; the CHSR is not responsible for monitoring any belongings.
Can I borrow items from the CHSR?
The CHSR avails certain items/equipment to be borrowed by School of Health faculty (Faculty can refer to our CHSR User Guide for further details on respective processes), however it should be noted that nothing is to be removed from the Simulation spaces. Certain items (such as High Fidelity Simulators) are not available for use without the presence and supervision of a Simulation Specialist. The furniture in some of the CHSR spaces (e.g., ADLs or Sim-Flex rooms) may be rearranged to suit the needs of one's session, however users will be responsible for returning the spaces to their original condition/set-up. Any missing/damaged items should be reported to the CHSR staff.
How much is it to book the CHSR?
The CHSR space and resources can typically be booked at no cost for programs within the School of Health, however there are booking processes and forms that need to be completed sufficiently ahead of the intended dates in order to potentially secure a spot. For any other user groups, there will be an associated cost for using CHSR resources.
How do I book a Tour of the CHSR?
Please submit a 'CHSR Discovery Meeting' form with details of your request, and our team will aim to connect with you as soon as possible to discuss any available options.
How do I book Simulated Participants (SP's)?
Please submit a 'CHSR Discovery Meeting' form with details of your request/needs, and our team will aim to connect with you as soon as possible to discuss any available options.
Can I bring my friends to come see the Simulation spaces?
No; access to the CHSR is only permitted to users who have been scheduled an activity. Access to the Simulation spaces will be made available to the public during various events such as Mohawk College's Open House, etc. Visit our 'Connect with us' page if you are interested in booking a Discovery Meeting activity such as a Tour.
