Our Path

The Centre for Indigenous Relations, Knowledge, and Learning (CIRKL) is guided through the lens of sovereignty and Indigenous ways of knowing and being. As an institution, Mohawk College is committed to both advancing truth and reconciliation with Indigenous communities and the Land. As Indigenous peoples, we value equitability in our approaches; the diverse identities of our colleagues, neighbours and friends; and the ability for everyone to have a valued role within our society. As a College, we commit to integrate Indigenous perspectives in all areas of practice and policy to achieve comprehensive cultural, structural, and systemic change. 

The primary goals of CIRKL are:

• Indigenous Programs and approaches to knowledge
• Indigenous-focused research, data, and access strategies
• Teaching and learning from Indigenous perspectives (Indigegogy)
• Indigenous Knowledge Learning Outcomes (IKLOs)
• Developing relationships with each other and the Land
• Community building and community-accessible resource building
• Indigenous professional development 
• Special projects to support Indigenous communities, partner organizations, and peoples

As part of our work, CIRKL has developed a path forward to support these initiatives and to include Indigenous knowledges, cultures, histories, and reconciliation in all areas of the college experience, both in and out of the classroom. CIRKL works closely with Indigenous communities internally and externally to the college in support and collaboration of these initiatives.
