- Building design including architectural concepts, site planning and space planning.
- Green building, sustainability, and net-zero design.
- Building science, materials, construction techniques and detailing.
- Technical drawings and BIM (Building Information Modeling) using REVIT.
- Architectural History and general education.
- Structural design in steel, concrete, masonry, and wood, including mass timber.
- Mechanical and electrical building systems, including renewable energy.
- Construction economics, estimating and quantity surveying
- Project management, facilities management, construction administration and project scheduling
- Emerging technologies, including 3D Visualization, AI, virtual reality, and digital scanning.

Domestic and International student admission requirements
OSSD or equivalent (Mohawk Academic Upgrading, GED) including:
- Grade 12 English, C or U or equivalent
- Grade 12 Mathematics (C* or U) or Grade 11 Functions (MCR3U)
* students with MAP4C require a grade ≥ 60% in the course
Note: Applicants that do not satisfy minimum requirements will be provided an alternate offer to Pre-Technology as a pathway to desired program. Successful graduates from this program will be considered for advanced standing into original program choice.
Language Requirements for Applicants with English as a Second Language
- See below for accepted equivalents for Grade 12 English:
- Successful completion of the GAS-English for Academic Purposes (478 or 278) program
- TOEFL minimum score of 550 (80 Internet based)
- or IELTS Academic minimum score of 6.0 overall with no band less than 5.5

Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate proficiency in English.

Please note that many of the co-op positions for this program require that students have a valid driver’s license ('G' class preferred) and access to a vehicle.

This program offers three co-op work term opportunities but requires two completed co-op work terms for the co-op designation.

Work Term 1 and 2
Drafting
- Detailing and preparation of residential design drawings including working drawings.
- AutoCAD/Revit for drawing preparation.
Building Construction
- The student has studied the properties of major construction materials such as concrete, steel and wood.
- Residential construction materials and techniques have been studied. This includes the most common construction practices from the footings to the roof.
Contracts and Economics
- The student has completed a basic estimating course including quantity take-offs, unit costs and overall quantities and costs.
- The student is familiar with contractual relationships in the building industry including fundamentals of contracts and types of contracts.
Building Services
- The student has studied mechanical and electrical systems related to residential construction including heat loss calculations, plumbing system design and drawing, and the drawing of electrical services.
Structural Design
- The student has studied the fundamentals of statics and applied them to basic design of columns and beams and simple structural systems.
Work Term 3
The student has completed studies related to light commercial construction in the subject areas of Building Construction, Drafting and Design, Building Services, Contracts and Economics, Building Code, and Structural Design.
After the fifth academic semester, the student has completed courses related to architectural design, production of details and drawings, building services, building exterior and interior finishes, contracts and specifications. The studies relate to the construction process from award of contract to completion of the contract and occupancy of the building.

Software
AutoCAD and REVIT is required for this program. A free download for students is available through the AutoCAD website. To be eligible for this download you must register with your Mohawk email, pass the system requirements test, and provide proof of enrollment (Photo of ONE Card, letter of acceptance, etc.). Note: that you can only complete this registration process after your program start date.
